About Basic Life Support (BLS)
Basic Life Support by Canadian Red Cross course is specifically designed for professionals with a duty to respond. This training will give you the confidence and skills you need to manage and lead a team response to life threatening medical emergencies.
When you complete this course, you will be equipped with the essential knowledge and skills to not only respond to an an immediately life threatening medical emergency, but to confidently take the lead.
Required Training and Experience
BLS does not require any previous training or experience! BLS starts with the basics, and then builds your skills through essential steps, including rapid assessment, manual airway management, respiration support, chest compressions, and rapid defibrillation with an AED, all while working with and leading a team of professionals to deliver true “high performance CPR”.
Oxygen Administration and Airway Management
Add optional oxygen administration and specialized airway management equipment to your training and certification, and be ready to use all the tools available in a professional or semi-professional setting!
Oxygen Administration Includes:
- Pulse oximetry
- Supplemental oxygen
- Oxygen cylinders and regulators
- Oxygen delivery devices (non-rebreather masks, simple face masks, nasal cannulas);
- Administration and monitoring of oxygenation levels
Airway Management Includes:
- Manual airway management maneuvers
- Oropharyngeal (OPA) airway insertion and removal
- Nasopharyngeal (NPA) airway insertion and removal
- Supraglottic airways (awareness only)
- Suction devices
Recertifying BLS
Basic Life Support is a ONE YEAR certification and must be recertified BEFORE the expiry date on the certificate. I
f you’re certificate is expiring, get back on track with one of our convenient options to recertify your BLS or BLS + Oxygen & Airway Management certifications!
Recertification Course Costs and Durations:
- Basic Life Support: $69; 2 hours in class
- Basic Life Support with Oxygen Administration and Airway Management: $99; 4 hours in class.
