Wilderness First Aid Recertifications – Student Information

Welcome Back - We Can’t Wait to See You Again!

Welcome to your Remote First Aid or Wilderness First Aid Recertification (RFA-R/WFA-R) with CPR/AED-C – a Canadian Red Cross recertification program.  These intensive 1- or 2- day programs are designed to re-familiarize you with the fundamentals, introduce any new content, and get your stick back on the ice with the focus on practical, hands-on training that Coast is known for!

Before you go, please be certain that you,

  • Understand your course location and schedule.
  • Can access your online pre-study, and have allotted sufficient time to complete it before your course begins. 

Your Learning Spaces

Our recertification courses take place entirely outside, unless you are otherwise notified. 

Vancouver Courses 

    • Vancouver training takes place in Pacific Spirit Park. There are two outdoor learning areas available to us.  You will be notified which of these you will be training in in an email approximately 2 weeks prior to your course start date.
      • Salish: Meeting area is at the Salish Trailhead, on the north side of 16th Ave.  
      • Heron: Meeting area is at the Park Center Parking Lot, also north off 16th Ave.
      • There is free parking along 16th avenue.  This area is also served by buses #025 and #033.

Squamish Courses

    • Squamish training is based out of our Squamish learning center, 1909 Maple Drive, Unit 101, in Valleycliffe.
    • There is a large, free parking lot; the area is also served by bus route #3.
    • Outdoor learning will take place nearby, with several great options within easy walking distance.

Your Schedule

Remote First Aid Recertification

  • RFA-R is a one-day, 8 hour course.
  • Training starts at 9 AM and ends at 6 PM.

Wilderness First Aid Recertification

  • WFA-R is a two-day, 16 hour course.
  • Training for both days starts at 9 AM and ends at 6 PM.

Your Learning Materials

All study materials are included in the cost of the course.  Your learning materials include:

  • Red Cross Wilderness First Aid Field Guide
  • Wilderness First Aid Quick Reference Card

Equipment (Required and Suggested)

Items in Bold Italics* are required. The rest are suggestions – there is no requirement for you to purchase this additional equipment just for the course! We recommend that you pack as you would for a day hike. All first aid materials and professional responder equipment will be provided.

  • Your 10 Essentials Kit
  • Water, Meals & High Energy Snacks
  • Headlamp (preferred) or Tactical Flashlight
  • Notebook, Pencil / Pens
  • Whistle
  • Sturdy, Waterproof Boots
  • Proper Seasonal Clothing (that can get dirty or stained)
  • Extra Socks
  • Extra Warm Hat
  • Backup Insulating Layers
  • Watch
  • Camp chair (strongly recommended)
  • Personal First Aid Kit (inc. personal medications)
  • Waterproof Emergency Layer (poncho or garbage bag)
  • Toilet Paper
  • Sheltering Equipment (polypropylene, sil-nylon, etc…)
  • Rope / Paracord (10’)
  • Rescue Mirror or 10 sq in. Aluminum Foil
  • Zip-lock Bags
  • Sleeping Pad

Missing something? There will be ample opportunity to coordinate supplies as a group before the overnight scenario.

Assessments and Certification

Written: You will complete a 20 question written assessment on the final day of your course.

Practical: Practical assessments are done throughout the course. Your instructor will work with you to ensure that your skills are sharp.

Certification: Upon successful completion of all course requirements and assessments, you will receive:

  • Red Cross Remote First Aid with CPR-C (3 years)
